Do You Want to Run Quicker?
Whether you compete in marathons or run for fitness, it's fun to be able to run quicker than everyone else. It really is possible to boost your running speed with a plan and a little patience. Keep reading to find out ways to increase your running speed.
How to Run Quicker
- Lift weights to strengthen the muscles in your lower extremities. This will help you be a faster sprinter, although it won't help if you're a distance runner.
- Do interval training. Instead of running at the same speed, vary your speed by running slowly for a minute and breaking into a sprint for sixty seconds. Alternate back and forth.
- Run hills. Running hills builds lower body strength and endurance. It'll make you a better sprinter.
- Pump your arms, but make sure you move your arms directly forward as you run, not side-to-side. The forward momentum of your arms will propel you forward.
- Do plyometric training. Plyometrics strengthen the lower body and builds power and endurance. Michael Johnson, one of history's fastest runners, credits plyometrics for his success.
- To run quicker, take a yoga class. Why yoga? It teaches you how to breathe from your belly instead of superficially from your chest. This will help you deliver more oxygen to your hard working muscles.
- Practice, practice, practice, but give yourself at least two days off a week to allow your muscles to recover.
You won't learn to run quicker overnight, but with persistence and positive focus, you can become a faster runner.
